The Bishop of Kalymnos has made a gift of an icon of Agios Savvas to Symi. On what Panormitis Moschiou, a member of Symi's council and worshipper at Agios Athanasios, described as a very important day for all of Symi's Christians, the icon arrived this evening to be greeted by the Metropolitan of Symi and an honour guard of soldiers. A convoy of vehicles escorted the icon around the harbour and upto Horio where it was met by a crowd of people who pressed forward to kiss it. It was then carried through the lanes from Kampos to its new permanent home at the church of Agios Athanasios.
